To celebrate International Women's Day we paid tribute to one of the most talented Soviet female directors Larisa Shepitko. ArtSocial Club in collaboration with Kino Klassika Foundation hosted a gala screening of Beginning of an Unknown Century (1967) at the iconic Regent Street Cinema.
Beginning of an Unknown Century is a two-part film directed by Larisa Shepitko and Andrei Smirnov, commissioned to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Revolution. Deemed too pessimistic by Brezhnev’s censors, the film was immediately shelved, and only shown for the first time twenty years later in 1987.
