Grant Application FAQ’s and Guidelines

As a small foundation, we adopt a hybrid grant-making style where we review every grant request received if it is consistent with the foundation’s mission, goals, and grant-making criteria.

We are looking to identify effective charities working in areas that correspond with our foundation’s interests and invite grant applications from such organisations.

Wh0 will be considered for an ArtSocial grant?

We provide grant funding to non-profit organisations delivering support service work to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people in the UK and Russia through Arts and Art Therapy.

Grants will be awarded to organisations that support the following target population:

  • Children and young people with special education needs and disabilities (SEND).

  • Children and young people with life-limiting and chronic medical conditions.

  • Children and young people with mental health conditions and trauma (including refugees, displaced and asylum seekers based in the UK and Russia).

  • Professional community of Art Therapists and practitioners working in the field of Art Therapy, creative therapies and participatory arts in the UK and Russia.

We see our unique role in providing support to two categories of grants that shape our grant-giving philosophy and organisational culture:

  • Service/Program Delivery
We provide funding to support an existing activity/service or expand the service to vulnerable children and young people. Grants may also be awarded to support the search for new interventions. However, our focus is always on maintaining or enhancing a service provided to individuals.

  • Capacity Building
Grants may also be awarded to create resources or to build the strategic, financial, and operational capacity of a select charity. For example, to help an organisation hire a Project Coordinator or Strategist to either replicate success in other communities or help increase reach and impact. The primary purpose of the funding is to support the organisation rather than the specific services it provides.

Grants will not be awarded for the following; building funds, bursaries or scholarships, capital campaigns, deficit financing, emergency funds, endowments, festivals or events, film projects, land acquisition, matching funds, seed funding, sponsorships or individuals.

What grant amount should I request from ArtSocial?

The amount of the grant depends on the size of your organisation, our habitual donations in your sector of activity or the funding required for the specific project.

Please note, in the interest of ensuring sustainability, we encourage projects benefiting from our financial support to diversify their income streams and seek funding from different partners and donors.

Our minimum grant amount is £900 and our maximum grant amount is £22,000.

When is the deadline to submit an application?

Applications are accepted and reviewed all year round but we normally make our decisions regarding grants at the beginning of a new financial year (in April) and the beginning of a new calendar year (in January).

After submitting my application, when should I expect to hear back from ArtSocial?

A maximum of 15 working days is provided following the application, except in the summer period, when the deadline may be extended to 30 days.

Can I present my application to an ArtSocial representative in person?

Due to the many applications submitted to us, in order to prioritise follow-up visits for active donations, we cannot accept requests for meetings with applicant organisations.

However, please do not hesitate to email us to ask more specific questions or to verify your application’s compatibility with ArtSocial’s interests.

How many times per year can I submit an application?

Applications will be accepted from an organisation once every twelve months.
